Dirt in Your Air Ducts

According to the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA), the average six-room home collects nearly 40 pounds of dirt and allergens in its air ducts, yearly. In addition to causing considerable air quality problems, this contamination can also dramatically increase energy costs. In fact, the Environmental Protection Agency suggests that a typical homeowner can save over 20% on energy bills if they have the coils of their air ducts cleaned consistently.

How Often Should You Clean Your Ducts?

It is suggested that you have a professional clean your air ducts every 3-5 years. If any of your residents suffer from allergies, you should have them cleaned as soon as possible and consider a more frequent cleaning schedule.

Do Your Air Ducts Need Cleaning?

  • Does anyone in the house suffer from mild to severe allergies? Do they get worse when either the furnace or air conditioning is running?
  • Is anyone in your home having respiratory problems including asthma or shortness of breath?
  • Does anyone in your home suffer from nasal congestion or headaches in the morning?
  • Is there a musty or stale odor when your furnace runs?
  • Do you have cats or dogs?
  • Do you ever notice excessive dust shortly after cleaning?
  • Do your furnace filters get dirty quickly after replacing them?
  • Does the air flow coming from the vents seem weak?
  • Was your home remodeled recently?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should make an appointment for an air duct inspection.

Our Air Duct-Cleaning Process

Air Duct Cleaning Syracuse NY

Our method features the AiroTech3 Triple HEPA Filtration negative air technique to make sure that allergens and dust from the cleaning process get safely contained in our vacuum, not thrown back into the air. In fact, our system filters greater than 99.9% of all pollutants.

  1. We check your system to make sure it’s working properly.
  2. We cover your furnace air filter in plastic and reinstall it to separate both the supply and return sides of the system.
  3. We cut 8” and 12” access holes into the main trunk line and install a zone bag. We then inflate the bag in the duct to guarantee a strong vacuum in preparation for fragment abstraction.
  4. We attach our portable HEPA air duct cleaner to the duct and fire it up.
  5. After the system is running and building up negative pressure, we seal off each register with plastic sheets or foam blocks, considerably increasing air velocity.
  6. Beginning from the register furthest from the furnace, we clean each branch line with forward air blast assemblies, nylon duct brushes or cable driven brushes. This method breaks down the debris to be vacuumed out by our air duct cleaner. Once the branch lines have been cleaned, we finish by cleaning the main trunk line.
  7. After the supply side is cleaned we move on to the return side, following the same procedure as above.
  8. Finally, we clean the A-coils and the blower.
  9. After all ducts are clean, we apply an EPA-registered air duct sanitizer, spraying it into each register with an Ultra Low Volume (ULV) fogger while the ducts are still under negative pressure.
  10. After the entire system has been sanitized and cleaned, we reseal all access holes with metal patches and reinstall all registers.
